As part of the Centre’s plans for grand celebrations on the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, President Droupadi Murmu will pay her tributes to tribal icon Birsa Munda at his birthplace in Ulihatu in Khunti, which is represented by Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda in the Lok Sabha.
“The President will inaugurate several projects of the Ministries of Road and Transport and Power besides laying foundation stone of several Eklavya Model Residential Schools virtually from Khunti. She will address women SHG members of TRIFED and NRLM in and around Khunti,” Munda informed mediapersons on Saturday.
He further informed that Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar will pay floral tributes at the statue of Birsa Munda at the Parliament complex here along with other Parliamentarians.
Munda said that a large number of national and state level programmes — from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh including in villages and remote areas — are being organised to celebrate Janjatiya Gaurav Divas from November 15th-22nd.
Marches of youth and performances by tribal artists across states in State capitals; cultural programmes; organization of seminars and workshops; essay, songs, dance, sport, and painting competitions, Swachhta campaign have all been planned across the country in coordination with the State Governments and State Tribal Research Institutes, the Tribal Affairs Minister said.
Munda pointed out that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government has declared November 15 as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas to commemorate the contributions of tribal communities in the nation’s history and culture and to re-energise the efforts for their socio- economic development.
While he said that the work is moving swiftly towards completion of 740 EMRS across the country, the celebration of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is a step towards making a resolve to provide basic amenities, employment, education to the tribal people living in remote areas and villages when the country completes 100 years of independence in 2047.
The Education Ministry has already announced celebrating the occasion across schools and higher education institutions.
