Dhanbad
Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, as he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 35,700 crore in Jharkhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the Congress and the JMM of treating tribals as mere vote banks.
He asserted that his government at the Centre is committed towards the development and welfare of tribals and it is, in fact, the BJP’s work culture.
His tribal messaging was clear as he held a small roadshow in Dhanbad flanked by the the State’s two main tribal leaders Jharkhand BJP chief Babulal Marandi and Tribal Affairs and Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda on either side.
“The JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) and the Congress have only looted Jharkhand. They will not let the talented youngsters of Jharkhand progress. That’s because dynasts only think of their own family. But whatever Modi is doing is for your future, is for the future of your children,” he alleged.
“Aren’t people from same family (Sorens) running the JMM? They will think about their children or your children. But you are my family and the future of your children is my guarantee,” Modi told the crowd adding there has been unprecedented development of tribals in the last 10 years of his rule.
In 2019, the BJP and its allies won 12 out of the 14 seats in Jharkhand. The Congress and the JMM won one seat each. But just a few days ago, the lone Congress MP Geeta Koda, wife of former Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda, switched over to the BJP dealing a big blow to the party.
Among various projects, he dedicated to the nation the Rs 8,900-crore fertiliser plant of Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd in Sindri in Dhanbad district. The Prime Minister then headed to West Bengal where he addressed a rally in Arambagh.
