An Army jawan, on leave, was abducted from his home by unidentified miscreants who later killed him at Neikanlong, Happy Valley in Imphal West. The deceased Army jawan has been identified as Serto Thangthang Kom from 474B, DSC platoon of 302 company of the Indian Army. His body was found at the Khuningthek village on Sunday.
According to police, the soldier of Indian Army was abducted from his home at about 10 AM on September 16. His 10-year-old son, who was the only eyewitness to the crime, said that three miscreants entered their home while the father and son were working on the porch and placed a pistol on his father’s temple and forced him into a white vehicle, before driving away with him.
There was no news of him till this morning at about 9:30 AM when his body was found at Khuningthek Village East of Mongjam under Sogolmang PS, Imphal East. His identity was confirmed by his brother and brother-in-law who stated that the soldier had been murdered by a single bullet to his head. The post mortem report is awaited.
Kom is survived by wife, a daughter and a son. The Army has rushed a team to assist the bereaved family in every possible way and strongly condemned his killing.
Ever since ethnic clashes between the Meiteis and Kukis broke out in Manipur, 175 people have lost their lives even while 32 persons remain untraceable and 96 bodies lay unclaimed in the morgues.
As many as 254 churches and 132 temples, totalling 386 religious structures, have been vandalised. They are part of the 5,172 cases of arson, with as many as 4,786 houses constituting the remaining numbers.
While 5,668 weapons have been looted from the state armoury since the beginning of the violence on May 3, security forces could so far recover only 1,329 of them. Another 15,050 ammunition and 400 bombs too have been recovered.
