Days after the shameful incident of molestation of a tribal woman by many tribal men in full public view in Wallpur area, the Alirajpur district police said all the accused in the case have been arrested. The police said overall 15 persons have been arrested.
Three tribal men had been arrested earlier after the shocking video of them allegedly sexually harassing a young tribal girl did the rounds on social media. Two others were detained for filming this incident and posting videos on social media, the police said adding the victim remains untraceable though.
“The videos were widely shared on the social media, following which the police took cognizance of it. The miscreants have been booked under section 354 (molestation) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Information Act (IT). Forensic teams examined the videos and identified the accused. We have arrested 15 people,” Alirajpur SP Manoj Singh said
“Preparations have been made like installation of more CCTVs, increase of police force in the fair areas. Steps are being taken to ensure that such incidents do not happen in the future,” he added.
Police probe revealed that the video was shot by a young man, a resident of Dhar, and the video was uploaded by a teen from Alirajpur.
The video showed a crowd wherein some men, who appeared to be in their 20s, pushing and hugging a woman walking on a street and trying to kiss her forcibly amid shouting by other men. Onlookers could be seen recording the disturbing act on their mobile cameras.
“No woman has lodged a complaint with us. We took the action based on the video that has gone viral,” the SP said.
