President Droupadi Murmu

New Delhi

As she completed three years in the highest office, President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said that it is a matter of satisfaction that in the past three years, many decisions were taken and works were done which increased the engagement of citizens with Rashtrapati Bhavan.

“It is always our endeavour to effectively connect all sections of society, especially the underprivileged and backward classes, with the country’s development journey,” President Murmu said in her short remarks.

She expressed happiness that Rashtrapati Bhavan became more accessible for Divyangjan. She also expressed confidence that various new initiatives will take place in the coming days.

Picked by the NDA, she had defeated former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, who was the united Opposition’s candidate. Murmu was sworn in as the 15th president on July 25, 2022. Prior to becoming the President, she was the governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.

While she has been frequently meeting tribals from across the country, she has also been meeting children besides women from different walks of life. Nearly 17 lakh people have visited the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Amrit Udyan and the Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum.

President Murmu is the first-ever Indian head of state to have visited Fiji, Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi. She received the highest award in Fiji and Timor-Leste and an honorary doctorate in Algeria and the Slovak Republic during her visit. She also visited New Zealand, Mauritania, Malawi, Portugal and Rome.

Here’s what all have been initiated:

  • Rashtrapati Bhavan, Amrit Udyan and Rashtrapati Bhavan Museum became Divyangjan-friendly premises after implementing the 50-point recommendation by the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities.
  • Official websites of Rashtrapati Bhavan – https://www.rashtrapatibhavan.gov.in/  and https://www.presidentofindia.gov.in/  – now available in 22 Indian languages.
  • Inauguration of various facilities for visitors and residents of the President’s Estates, such as the Visitor Facilitation Centre at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Nilayam Nikunj at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Hyderabad, Cafeteria, Souvenir Shop and Reception at Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra and a renovated Gym at the President’s Estate.
  • Launch of E-Upahaar season 2 to auction over 250 items.  All proceeds from the auction will be donated to initiatives supporting the welfare of children. Details at – https://upahaar.rashtrapatibhavan.gov.in/
  • Launch of e-book – compilation of glimpses of the past one year of the Presidency (link https://rb.nic.in/ebook25.htm).
  • Commencement of initiatives to make Rashtrapati Bhavan Net Zero by March 2027.

Centre targets recognition of 1 Lakh tribal healers

The Modi government has set an ambitious target to formally recognise and enable one lakh tribal healers as partners in strengthening health services for tribal communities across the country. The initiative aims to integrate traditional healing knowledge with the formal public health system, particularly in remote and forested tribal regions where access to modern healthcare remains limited. The information was shared by officials of the Tribal Affairs Ministry at the Capacity Building Programme for Tribal Healers on Strengthening Health Outreach in Tribal Areas in Hyderabad on January 16. As many as 400 tribal healers were in attendance. Under the plan, tribal healers, often the first point of care in their communities, will be trained to support preventive healthcare, early identification of diseases, health awareness, and timely referrals to government health facilities. The programme seeks to leverage the deep trust tribal healers command within their communities to improve outreach, disease surveillance and last-mile delivery of health services. The move is also expected to help preserve indigenous medical knowledge while ensuring it aligns with public health protocols. By formally recognising tribal healers, the government aims to create a culturally sensitive, community-driven healthcare ecosystem that addresses persistent health challenges among tribal populations.
