Manipur’s Eromba
The most famous tribal dish is Eromba, which is basically the signature cuisine of the Meitei community. Eromba is a stew of boiled vegetables and mashed potatoes. It can be both vegetarian, and non-vegetarian with potatoes and dried fish in the spicy mix.
Tripura’s Mui Borok
The traditional famous dish is Mui Borok, a spicy preparation of dried fish Berma that is cooked minus oil. Hence, it is a healthy tribal dish. Another delicacy is Wahan (pork) and Tahaan (chicken) Mosdeng. Mosdeng is a kind of salad or bharta. On the other hand, Gudok is the main dish of the tribal communities of the State.
Arunachal Pradesh’s Pika Pila
The Upper snow-clad hills have more Tibetan influences in their food habits. Pika Pila is the famous signature dish of the Apatani tribe. It is a pickle. Bamboo shoots, pork fat and king chilly, one of the spiciest in the world, are the main ingredients.
Manipur’s Chak Hao Kheer
It is a Black Rice Kheer, one of Manipur’s favourite desserts. Black Rice is also known as Forbidden Rice as the legend has it that in ancient China it was meant to be eaten only by the aristocracy. Manipur is the largest producer of the aromatic Black Rice which is also healthy. It is high on fibre and protein, and low on calorie contents.
