First, as many as 30 students from different Indian universities will fan out across States. Stay in tribal areas for a three-month period. To learn firsthand about the tribal communities of India and subsequently. Prepare a detailed report submitted to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST).
The NCST initiative is the first-ever such internship program for students who will study the problems of the tribals and also work amidst them, based on which they will prepare their reports.
“First time that such an initiative has been undertaken by the Commission. Under this initiative, a total of 30 students from different states selected for a three-month internship. Travel and accommodations of the students arranged by the Commission,” the Commission said.
In the first week, the selected students will given information about the tribal community and the subjects concerned. Academics and teachers from various universities besides tribal affairs experts will brief the students before sending them to the tribal areas in different states.
“The purpose of this internship is to provide experience to the students of working in the tribal areas and among tribal people. On the basis of the reports presented by the students, the Commission will decide its role further,” the NCST maintained.
The NCST will also soon hold discussions with as many as 41 different Central ministries for proper utilization of the allocated budget for the development and welfare of the Scheduled Tribes.
An amount of Rs. 87,584 cr, allocated as Schedule Tribe Component in 2022-23 as against an amount of Rs. 78,256 cr in the last fiscal to the different Central Ministries.
