Incarcerated former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s better half Kalpana Murmu Soren on Monday formally ventured into power politics and even addressed the JMM’s 51st foundation day gathering in Giridih on Monday.
A day before, she announced her plans to foray into public life as she celebrated her 48th birth anniversary on Sunday and took the blessing of her in-laws Shibu Soren and Rupi Soren.
“On the demand of the people of Jharkhand and innumerable hard working members of the JMM family, I am starting my public life from tomorrow. Until Hemant ji comes back among us, I will continue to be his voice and share his thoughts with you all and will continue to serve you,” she posted on X.
Before proceeding to the rally venue at Jhanda Maidan, she worshipped Majhi Than and Bhamia Baba.
“What crime was committed by Hemant Soren? That he asked the Centre to release Jharkhand its due share worth over Rs 1.36 lakh crore? That he advocated 27 percent reservations for backward communities? Or he got a Bill passed by the legislature recommending implementation of a separate Sarna Code of Scheduled Tribes based across the country? That he behaved like an over- enthusiast during ‘struggles’ to bail out the victims of lockdown unleashed by Coronavirus pandemic? That he proposed a ‘conducive’ Sthaniya Niti (local residents’ policy)? That he even dared waive off the loans and liabilities of poor farmers,” she asked the gathering.
She went on to maintain that overwhelmed by the love and due regards, she was all set for her transformation from Bahu to Beti (daughter-in-law to daughter). She also repeated almost all issues in Santhali language too.
Kalpana urged the masses to give befitting reply to the real perpetrators of crime and the tormentors dancing to their tune. Kalpana, who has been handling Hemant’s X handle since February 5, later asserted on the micro-blogging site that the “intentions of the BJP-led Central government of harassing popular leader Hemant Soren will never be fulfilled”.
Kalpana, who is an M,Tech and an MBA, runs playschool in Ranchi. She was born in Kapurthala (Punjab). Her father A. Murmu from Mayurbhanj in Odisha earlier served the Indian Army and rose up to Captain rank. Kalpana has had interests in business and charity. Organic Farming too is one of her passions.
As per her husband Hemant Soren’s declarations before the Election Commission of India in 2019, she owns three commercial buildings worth over Rs 4.87 crore, life insurance policies amounting to nearly Rs 25 lakh, bank deposits of around Rs 9 lakh, gold ornaments amounting to nearly Rs 25 lakh and some silver items too worth around Rs 9 lakh.
