India on Sunday showcased its rich tribal heritage to international audiences involving around 100 diplomats from over 20 foreign missions here besides delegates from international organizations such as the United Nations, at the ongoing Aadi Mahotsav at Dilli Haat.
Organized by the TRIFED in association with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Tribes India Conclave saw the participation of diplomats from countries like Poland, Kiribati, South Korea, Mexico, Thailand, Laos, Switzerland, Bangladesh, Maldives, US and Brazil among others.
The guests were even treated to a lunch with the spread involving some exotic tribal dishes such as Mutton Seekh Kebab from Jammu and Kashmir, Fish Pakoraa from Odisha, Chaman Paneer from Jammu and Kashmir, Besan ki Gatte ki Sabzi from Rajasthan, Mutton and Chicken Banjara Biryani from Telangana, Bajra and Makke ki Roti from Madhya Pradesh and Moong ka Halwa from Gujarat.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs in a statement said the event was “in line with the Prime Minister’s vision for Vocal for Local and building a self-reliant India”.
The dignitaries went around the 200 stalls of the tribal artisans from across the country displaying products ranging from traditional weaves to jewellery and paintings and toys. There were also live demonstrations by artisans on how to make pottery, Lac bangles and Gond paintings besides a live puppet show.
The TRIFED briefed the foreign diplomats how it is working to bring the tribal artisans and forest dwellers into the mainstream and provide them access to larger markets. As many 500 such events, some on a smaller scale, are organised in an year, it pointed out.
A special show on Tribal Handicrafts, Handlooms and accessories curated by Gramin Vikas Chethan Sansthan, Barmer has been scheduled for November 29 evening.
