There is no doubting the glamour and attraction of mixed martial arts (MMA) among the youth globally. Hemavi Ayemi of Nagaland, a champion in the field. Offers beginners, intermediate and advanced courses in MMA at the Strike Fit academy in Dimapur.
As a 23-year-old, this Sumi tribal ventured into the field of MMA in 2014. And mastered Muay Thai, wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), boxing and kickboxing. Although initially trained by a professional coach, Hemavi relied a lot on self-training too. That very year, he bagged a bronze at the BJJ National Championship in Mumbai.
Hemavi has vowed to train at least 10,000 women from the state in self-defense at his Strike Fit academy and has already taught several hundred.
However, Hemavi’s major sporting glory is Muay Thai, which is a very brutal martial art involving hands, legs, knees, and elbows. Although he has been a national champion thrice. Represented India at the Muay Thai World Championship held in Bangkok in 2019. Participated in the Yoddha Fighting Championship in 2014 and 2015.
Now, having donned the additional mantle of coach, Hemavi has vowed to train at least 10,000 women from the state in self-defense at his Strike Fit academy and has already taught several hundred.
