You could say a love for nature runs in the family. Gee Yuman, an agricultural entrepreneur from Imphal, knew from an early age that she would work in something connected to the environment, coming from a simple tribal family.
However, her achievements have been far loftier than a simple connect to the environment. Armed with a first class Master’s degree in forestry from Kumaun University, Nainital, she has pioneered a first-of-its-kind product, Green Bucket, to convert kitchen waste into organic waste using micro composting.
Yuman, who has advised 4,500 farmers till date, has also founded Green Biotech EcoSolutions, which deals with biofertilisers and biopesticides.
Yuman has also founded Green Biotech EcoSolutions, which deals with biofertilisers and biopesticides and works with various tea garden groups, NGOs, farmers and self-help groups across the North East by providing technology and cultivation-related services.
“For organic farming to become a sustainable and scaleable practice, farmers need to be educated about the techniques and benefits of organic farming in the context of their local ecosystem, comprising socioeconomic and environmental factors,” says Yuman. “This has been my endeavor in Manipur since 2012. I have been providing free consultation services to individual farmers,” she says.
